In 1985, Adolfo de las Heras Marínen, driven by his passion for winemaking, founded Bodegas y Viñedos de Utiel, acquiring one of the most ecologically and enologically valuable estates in the Valencian Community. El Renegado has 540 hectares between vineyard and forest, of which more than 80% are vineyards over 40 years old of the native Bobal grape. Don Adolfo was one of the pioneers in the introduction of other varieties such as merlot and cabernet in this area. He was also one of the first to produce quality bottled wine. During the first years, young wines were marketed, discovering new coupages and ways of elaboration. It was his son, Adolfo de las Heras Polo, who in the late 1990s took over the winery and revolutionized it.

New varieties

Adolfo de las Heras Polo imports the rest of the varieties that the winery now has, such as syrah, chardonnay, cabernet franc, etc. Then, the barrel building, the bottling line and the transformation of the old farmhouse into a beautiful hotel were put into operation. From the end of the 1990s until 2020, Adolfo de las Heras, driven by his meticulousness and good work, adapted the estate and the winery to the needs of his new project: to produce quality wines. In 2005, as a result of the effort and work of the whole team, his first wine of these characteristics saw the light of day. It was then that the winery began to produce wines with longer aging in barrels with different types of French oak, which gave the wines greater complexity, nobility and distinction.

Nodus is born

Nodus, the company’s flagship wine, is born. Although today we have a wide range of products, the beginnings and successes are due to Nodus Tinto de Autor and Nodus Chardonnay. Within this range, the aging in French oak barrels stands out, where the production in number of bottles for each of its references is pampered. Nodus currently has one of the most complete ranges on the market. Its positioning in the best wine lists and specialized stores confirms this.

One of the best winegrowing areas of the Utiel-Requena Denomination of Origin

The 200 hectares of vineyards constitute a privileged location for the culture of vine. The autochthonous variety is the Bobal, which together with the varieties Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Tempranillo, complete the range of products that allow us to obtain the best wines, combining innovation and tradition.
