History
In 1985, Adolfo de las Heras Marínen, driven by his passion for winemaking, founded Bodegas y Viñedos de Utiel, acquiring one of the most ecologically and enologically valuable estates in the Valencian Community. El Renegado has 540 hectares between vineyard and forest, of which more than 80% are vineyards over 40 years old of the native Bobal grape. Don Adolfo was one of the pioneers in the introduction of other varieties such as merlot and cabernet in this area. He was also one of the first to produce quality bottled wine. During the first years, young wines were marketed, discovering new coupages and ways of elaboration. It was his son, Adolfo de las Heras Polo, who in the late 1990s took over the winery and revolutionized it.
