A bit of History

Driven by his passion for winemaking, Adolfo de las Heras Marín founded Bodegas y Viñedos de Utiel in 1985, acquiring one of the estates with the greatest ecological and oenological value in the Valencian Region. El Renegado spans 540 hectares and includes a vineyard and a forest; 80% of the vineyards grow the native Bobal grape and are more than 40 years old. Adolfo was a pioneer in introducing other varieties such as Merlot or Cabernet into the area. He was also one of the first viticulturists to make high-quality bottled wine. During the estates’ first years, he marketed young wines and explored new coupages and oenological methods. His son, Adolfo de las Heras Polo, revolutionised the winery at the end of the 90s when he took the reins.

New Varieties

Adolfo de las Heras Polo began to import the other varieties the winery currently offers, such as Syrah, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, etc. The cask hall, bottling line and former farmhouse were then transformed into a beautiful hotel. Impelled by his meticulousness and vision, from the late 90s to 2020, Adolfo de las Heras sculpted the estate and the winery to meet the needs of his new project: making quality wines. The effort and work of the entire team was realised in 2005 when his first wine with these characteristics was released. They then began to produce wines with greater ageing, in barrels made from different types of French oak that gave their wines greater complexity, nobility and distinction.

From this, Nodus emerges

Nodus, the company’s jewel, was born. Although we currently offer a wide range of products, the beginnings and successes of our story are owed to the Nodus Tinto de Autor and Nodus Chardonnay. Within this range, the ageing in French oak barrels is the crowning achievement, where the individual bottles produced for each range are pampered. Nodus currently has one of the most complete ranges on the market. Nodus wines are found on the most exclusive wine lists and in boutique stores.

This is what our vineyards and forests look like from above

One of the best wine-growing areas in Utiel-Requena (Valencia, Spain)

The 200 hectares of vineyards are a prime area to cultivate vine. The autochthonous variety is Bobal, and together with the Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Tempranillo varieties, and our fusion of innovation and tradition, they result in a range of products that include the best wines.
